5.1 Find the links in one place

Statistics Canada's Learning Resources website pulls together into one location the most relevant resources for students and teachers. Here's where you'll find the link to Census of Canada resources under "Quick Links".

5.2 Profile data in E-STAT

What's E-Stat logoE-STAT is a database developed for the education community. It includes the entire 2006 Census profile at various geographic levels as well as data from recent and historical censuses.

It also includes data from other non-census sources and it enables you to produce tables, graphs and maps.

Students and teachers must accept the licensing agreement every time they access E-STAT.

5.4 Getting ready for the 2011 Census

2011 Census logoThe 2011 Census Teacher's Kit helps raise students' awareness of the upcoming census in May 2011. You can order the following free print materials:

  • K-12 activities that focus on how and why the census is conducted
  • A kit for adult students in ABE/ESL
  • A colouring book and game activity sheet

5.5 Census Results Teacher's Kit

The 2006 Census Results Teacher's Kit activities are:

  • based on the results of the 2006 Census
  • suitable for intermediate and secondary grade levels
  • relevant to various subject areas
  • written by the Critical Thinking Consortium
  • helpful in teaching students to use reasoned judgements as they interpret and assess census data

5.6 Census of Agriculture resources

Based on the 2006 Census of Agriculture, the publication Canadian Agriculture at a Glance gives smart, snappy and informative articles. These are written at the grade 10 reading level, but the content would appeal to younger students as well.

The earlier version of this publication, based on the 2001 Census of Agriculture, included a teacher's kit.

5.7 Census at School online project

Censu at school logoWith Census at School, students do a class census, from collection to analysis.

They fill in an online questionnaire and then analyze their raw data, developing their statistical literacy skills. They can compare their class data to summary data of students who participated in the project in Canada and other countries

Learning activities are relevant to a range of subjects.

The Census at School online questionnaire models the internet reporting option that is used by the Census of Canada.
